History
Kwun Tong is one of the earliest developed urban districts in Hong Kong.
In ancient time, it had once been a strategic location for economic and military affairs. Kwun Tong was a tract of salt-pans where government revenue was generated through production of salt and collection of taxes from salt producers. The area was so called Kwun Fu Cheung (官富場). The original Chinese name of Kwun Tong was 官塘, literally meaning ponds owned by the government, as it was derived from these salt-pans which looked like ponds when filled up with sea water and majority of which were owned by the government.
